Why am I studying Architecture?

“Architecture grouped all of my interests (archeology, landscape, art, helping people, sustainability) into one career.”

My architect hero?

“Antonio Gaudi! His way of exploring forms and connecting them to nature is extraordinary. I love how he had a detail for everything – down to the door knobs!”

My two favorite buildings?

“I visited the Schroder house in Utrecht, Holland by Gerrit Rietveld – it was an amazing experience since I studied it at school and Sainte-Chapelle in the heart of Paris is definitely my second candidate – as you enter you have a sense of weightlessness!”

Favorite food ?

“Definitely chocolate.”

Top songs on my mp3 player?

“Still Into You” by Paramore and “Feeling Good” by a girl from X Factor. (I like to sing that one. It describes how I feel each morning before coming to work!)Also lots of classical.”

If I could live inside a work of art, I would choose…

“The Urban Light sculpture by the artist Chris Burden. I love old street lamps and how they look at night! Maybe that’s why I love going to the Gaslamp Quarter.”

Secret ambition?

“I would like to run a chocolate shop, like a chocolate factory, but with small, beautiful handmade things – very artisanal.”

Favorite San Diego experience?

Too many to choose just one…Riding the Giant Dipper at Belmont Park; taking lunch on the terrace at the end of the Salk Institute; watching the sunset on Shelter Island; hiking up to Potato Chip Rock and the Walk for Animals at Liberty Station!”

What’s next?

I will go back to Monterrey and finish my last semester at the ITESM. After working for a while and learning more about the practice of architecture– I want to start a firm with my 3 sisters. One of them is a Lawyer, another one is an Architect, and the other is an Industrial Designer. I think we’ll make an extraordinary team!”

  1. Edward Beaman says:

Antonio Gaudi is one of my favourite architects too. I remember visiting Barcelona and seeing his creations. Dreamscapes like nothing I’d ever seen before.

The architect-lawyer-industrial designer team is certainly going to be an extraordinary force.

    Good luck!
